Water Treatment

The world is fast approaching a stage where clean drinking water is not readily available for all humans. Clean and contamination-free water is a precious resource that is fast becoming scarce. Industries too need clean potable water their numerous processes for manufacturing quality products.

MFAR Activated Carbon is one of the best solutions to effectively improve water quality. The carbon we offer is fully compliant with national regulations and certifications. This is why it is widely used to meet the needs of drinking water treatment of Cities and Municipalities.

MFAR Activated Carbon has a massive surface area that allows it to be very effective in adsorbing, and essentially removing, contaminants and other substances. We offer a range of high-quality, standard, specially processed products that comply with NSF 61, NSF 42 certifications. Our customers also access our specialized technical support too.

MFAR Activated Carbon enhances the quality of drinking water by effectively removing the following contaminants:

  • Taste and odor components
  • Organic matter (TOC) and disinfection by-products precursors (DBPs)
  • Man-made chemicals, such as PFAS
  • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
  • Disinfection by-products (DBPs),
  • Chlorinated compounds
  • Chloramines
  • Polycyclic hydrocarbons
  • Coloured bodies
  • Toxins, oils - and many other contaminants

The superior strength, adsorption characteristics, best-suited pore dimensions, and controlled particle size distribution ensures consistent, high-quality performance of the carbon products.

MFAR ‘WT grades’ is mainly used for potable, industrial, wastewater, and effluent water treatment.

We also offer value-added or special products for water treatment include impregnated carbon with:

  • Bacteriostatic action
  • Catalytic carbons for the removal of Sulphur compounds and Chloramines
  • Low Iron and low Chloride products
  • Specialized washed products utilized in the manufacture of ultrapure water for dialysis and electronic industry requirements.

MFAR Activated Carbon for Waste Water Treatment

Industrial and municipal wastewater can be cost-effectively treated using Activated Carbon from MFAR. We offer both granular and powdered activated carbon with the most suitable pore network and surface characteristics to ensure the right purity and clarity of the water. The special micro and mesopore distribution of our range of products enables it to capture a wide multitude of contaminants including those in the medium to a small range of molecular sizes.

MFAR Activated Carbon Products effectively removes:

  • Dissolved organics contributing to BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), TOC (Total Organic Content)
  • Mercury, Phenolics and Colored bodies, and other contaminants from effluent water that are potentially toxic to humans and the environment
  • Landfill leachate, Contaminated groundwater, Washing / Effluent water, etc., can be treated to meet industry regulations.

Drinking-Water Purification

The quality requirements for potable / drinking water are rather stringent. MFAR Activated Carbons in Granular and Powder forms can effectively make drinking water free from contaminants.

Our solution makes drinking water free from all odor and taste-forming chemical compounds such as Methylisoborneol (MIB) and Geosmin, unwanted colors, endocrine disrupting compounds, and other micropollutants, chlorinated hydrocarbons, Trihalomethanes, and other disinfection by-products, VOCs, pesticides, and their by-products.

Our products comply with standards like:

  • NSF 61, NSF 42, HALAL and KOSHER requirements
  • Low dichlorination half values
  • Better flow characteristics
  • Various particle size distributions to facilitate pressure drop
  • Adsorption kinetics requirements
  • Ideal balance of both adsorption and transport pores
  • High mechanical strength resulting in minimal operational and pressure drop issues.

These features make our granular carbon products the industry choice for Point of Use (POU) and Point of Entry (POE) water filters.

Our specialized range of products include:

  • Silver and copper impregnated carbon for bacteriostatic applications.
  • Catalytic carbons for chloramine and hydrogen sulfide removal.

In the treatment of Municipality water

MFAR Carbons provide the following solutions for the treatment of Municipality water -

  • Removal of organics including VOCs
  • Inorganics and toxins inherent in the rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and other surface water sources and groundwater.
  • MFAR has the capability and expertise to develop tailor-made products for surface and groundwater treatment in municipality water treatment systems to deliver consistent performance in removing numerous contaminants.

Chloramine Removal

Chloramine – which is a carcinogenic drinking water disinfectant at higher concentrations - affects the quality of water in terms of taste and odor. They are not easily removed using normal carbon. It also happens to be a difficult contaminant to remove at the point of use.

MFAR Carbon’s R&D division led by our team of Scientists along with our Product Development Team has come up with a solution for removing Chloramines. This surface modifying technology was developed after intensive research as an effective solution.

The product is available in various sizes, customizable to meet the pressure-drop requirements. Here normal Virgin Carbon Grades are replaced by Catalytic Carbon leading to increased bed life and reduction in the cost of operation by reducing the contact time and size of the equipment.

Bacteriostatic Filters

Activated Carbon when used for purifying water and making it fit for consumption can trap organic materials and other contaminants. This can lead to bacterial growth. As the carbon filters are for long periods of use, bacterial growth and becomes a serious issue as bacteria can proliferate and grown in such filters.

MFAR Bacteriostatic Filters are the answer to this issue. They are infused with a silver-based agent or zinc/copper nanoparticles to prevent bacteriological issues. The surface impregnation through a fine distribution of chemicals and metal particles on the internal surface modifies the activated carbon.

This process enhances the absorptive capacity of the carbon through a synergism between the chemicals and the carbon. MFAR Bacteriostatic Filters are silver and copper impregnated carbons delivering a diverse array of antimicrobial agent impregnated products. Their benefit is that they fight microorganisms even while absorbing other contaminants. The carbon is available in granular sizes that can be customized to various systems and operational conditions.

Soil Water Treatment

Excessive and extensive use of organic and inorganic fertilizers in agriculture leads to groundwater pollution in the long run. This process is damaging the natural ecosystem in vast tracts of agricultural land and its surroundings. The soil is also losing its fertility and natural biological vitality leading to it becoming unsuitable for cultivation.

Today with the help of activated carbon-based water treatment, much of the contaminants can be isolated. MFAR Activated Carbon can be utilized in treating the water both in stand-alone systems and in conjunction with other treatment processes.

MFAR Activated Carons can be utilized for:

  • Reducing Total Organic Carbons
  • Reducing Total Organic Halides
  • Reducing VOC Volatile Organic Compounds
  • Dissolved Organic Compounds in soil water
